A brand-new country musical, Under The Mersey Moon, will make its debut at the Floral Pavilion in New Brighton next February. Written by local musicians Jimmy Rae and Pete Davies, the musical features 13 original songs performed by a talented 10-member cast, accompanied by a live six-piece band.
Set to premiere on Friday, February 14, at 7:30 p.m., the show will also have a matinee on Saturday, February 15, at 2:30 p.m., before its second evening performance at 7:30 p.m.
Under The Mersey Moon tells the heartfelt story of a struggling country musician from Liverpool who, inspired by his ailing grandfather, embarks on a life-changing journey to Nashville in search of stardom. The musical explores themes of determination, love, and the enduring strength of family, making it an ideal Valentine’s Weekend production.
Starring radio legend Billy Butler and his actress wife Lesley, the show promises to be an emotional rollercoaster—blending humor, romance, and powerful moments of self-discovery. Set against the picturesque Wirral waterfront, this new production is sure to captivate country music fans and theatre lovers alike.
Jimmy Rae and Pete Davies, known for their work in local acoustic and roots music, bring their shared vision to life with this musical collaboration. The duo has long discussed writing a musical together, and after a year of planning, they are thrilled to see it come to life in their hometown.
“I’m so excited that this is happening here on Merseyside,” said Rae. “We hope this debut run is just the beginning, and we can take it to more theatres, including Liverpool.”
Directed by seasoned writer and composer Brian McCann, Under The Mersey Moon promises a dynamic, heartwarming experience, perfect for a Valentine’s Weekend outing.
