George Strait was honored with the prestigious Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2024 CMA Awards, where a lineup of country stars gathered to celebrate his legendary career. The tribute began with Lainey Wilson’s flawless rendition of Strait’s iconic “Amarillo by Morning,” followed by Jamey Johnson’s soulful and bold performance of “Give It Away.”
Miranda Lambert and Parker McCollum joined forces to deliver a heartfelt version of “Troubadour,” a standout hit from 2008 that was especially fitting for the occasion. The tribute culminated with Strait himself taking the stage to perform “Honky Tonk Hall of Fame,” a duet with Chris Stapleton from his recent album Cowboys and Dreamers.
The tribute featured artists who have shared the stage with Strait in recent years, making it a fitting homage to the country music icon. With an unparalleled 83 nominations and 17 CMA Awards, Strait holds the record for most nominations in the event’s history, and his last win came in 2013 for Entertainer of the Year.
