The big winner at the 2023 ARIA Awards was Troye Sivan.

Australia’s answer to the Grammys took place at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion on Wednesday (15Nov23), and the ‘One of Your Girls’ singer took home four top prizes: solo, produced and engineered release for his album ‘Rush’, as well as song of the year for the title track.

After collecting his Best Solo Artist trophy, Troye, 28, gushed about being nominated in the same category as Australian pop idol Kylie Minogue at next year’s Grammys.

Speaking about it, he said: “I swear I’m not bragging… but Kylie and I are nominated in the same category at the Grammys and it makes me so, so proud.”

Kylie, 55, won her own award for her viral hit “Padam Padam,” which was named best pop release.

She recorded a pre-recorded message even though she couldn’t be there in person, saying: “Thank you so much, Padam to you!”

Genesis Owusu received the most nominations and took home the top prize of Album of the Year for “Struggler.” He also won Best Hip-Hop/Rap Release and Best Independent Release.

Amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza, the 25-year-old Ghanaian-Australian singer used his video message to call for a ceasefire.

He said: “Hip-hop has made me who I am and allowed me to speak about the things I wanted to speak about, so I will always cherish it with my heart.”

G Flip picked up two awards, with the 30-year-old singer winning Best Australian Live Act and Best Video for ‘Good Enough’.

The rapper – who was joined by ‘Selling Sunset’ star wife Chrishell Stause – also opened the show with an energetic performance that saw her play drums and leap across the stage to the punk-pop tune ‘Good Enough’.

Dolly Parton, 77, also made a virtual appearance to present the award for best country album to Fanny Lumsden for Hey Dawn.

Best group went to indie rockers the DMAs.

And Taylor Swift, 33, was named Most Popular International Artist.
