Korean-Australian alternative hip-hop group 1300 has released a new single titled “Bangalang,” marking their first musical offering of 2025. The track, which dropped on June 6, was met with excitement from fans and critics alike.
In a statement about the song, the group explained that “Bangalang” is “literally about bread.” The track features a playful exchange of verses about various types of bread, from Asian-style baked goods to croquettes. “It’s not that deep; it comes from a sense of play, and we just wanted to have fun again,” the group said, emphasizing the light-hearted nature of the song.
Musically, “Bangalang” blends “pop sonics” with strong basslines and dance-driven production, contributed by members pokari.sweat and Nerdie. The result is a fun, energetic track designed to evoke spontaneity and joy.
The release of “Bangalang” follows their mixtape GEORGE, which came out on April 17, 2024. It also marks the group’s first release since signing with JADED, a Los Angeles-based independent music company that specializes in promoting emerging Asian artists.
Formed in 2020, 1300 is made up of rappers rako and goyo, rapper-singer-dancer DALI HART, and producers Nerdie and pokari.sweat. The group came together after a chance meeting at a house party, having previously been part of Sydney’s small Korean-Australian music scene. Known for their genre-blending style, 1300 combines elements of rap, SoundCloud beats, 90s breakbeat, and electronic music. They have garnered attention with tracks like “Smashmouth,” “Rocksta,” “Wire,” and “Oldboy.”
