Rob49 has addressed the criticism Justin Bieber’s verse received on the unreleased remix of his song “WTHelly.” Speaking to Billboard, the New Orleans rapper said he is unsure if he will officially release the track.
Rob49 recently discussed his new album, Let Me Fly, and the mixed response after he teased the remix featuring Bieber. He previewed the song during a Twitch livestream with streamer Reggie. Fans quickly reacted, criticizing Bieber for changing the lighthearted song into a soulful ballad.
After talking with Bieber, Rob49 said he is still deciding whether to release the remix. “I talked to Justin a couple of days ago. He said he wanted to work on more songs, so I don’t know,” Rob said. “When he first sent it to me, he asked, ‘What do you think? Can I go harder?’ I told him, ‘I love it, man. If you like it and feel good about it, then I love it.’”
When asked if he was surprised by the mixed reactions, Rob49 replied, “No, not really. I expected it because Justin himself asked me if he could go harder.”
Rob49 acknowledged that Bieber’s singing might not please everyone. “You never know what will be a hit. Fans don’t always understand that,” he said. “Some people might say, ‘Oh, he sang?’ But if it had become a hit, it would have been a big success. That’s the difference between songs.”
Rob49 also revealed that other remixes of “WTHelly” are coming soon. The first to be released will be the remix with G Herbo.
“I planned to drop the G Herbo remix first and include it on the album, but it was finished too late,” he explained. “It might come out right after the album, and then we’ll go from there.”
Let Me Fly is set to release on Friday, May 23. The album features guest appearances from Birdman, Meek Mill, Sexyy Red, Quavo, Polo G, and Fridayy.
