Dailyt Seems to Take More Jabs at Joey Badass in New Song ‘Backpack’

Daylyt has released a new single titled “Backpack,” and fans on social media are speculating that the track contains several subliminal jabs aimed at Joey Badass. The song, dropped on Monday, comes with a music video where Daylyt shows off his skateboarding skills. At one point in the song, he raps, “It’s too early to end you, I’m still tryna befriend you,” which fans believe may be directed at Joey.

The music video also features brief clips from Daylyt’s previous response to Joey Badass, “Hiyu.” In “Backpack,” Daylyt continues to hint at the ongoing tension, rapping: “1999, when I was 19, I probably shot ’bout 90 9s.”

Fans quickly took to the comments section of the video to share their thoughts. One user wrote, “This was so good. Regardless of the skating, the Joey Badass subliminals were very tastefully done too. Damn.” Others praised the music video itself, with one fan noting, “Visuals matter. TDE always amplifies the music with great visuals. It’s a given Daylyt is gonna shine.” Another fan commented, “This production is NUTS!!! Reminds me of 2010s Odd Future and the bars are light-years ahead of just about anything else. Daylyt is making the best music of any professional battle emcee, in my opinion.”

The tension between Daylyt and Joey Badass traces back to earlier this year when Joey Badass released his track, “The Ruler’s Back,” in which he appeared to challenge the entire West Coast. On the song, Joey rapped: “Too much West Coast dck lickin’ / I’m hearin’ n**s throwin’ rocks, really ain’t sht stickin’ / ‘Cause if we talkin’ bar for bar, really it’s slim pickings,” seemingly taking shots at Kendrick Lamar’s success in 2024.

Being from California, Daylyt responded to Joey’s remarks with “Hiyu,” defending his West Coast roots. In the track, he raps, “You boys had years to show you the best, clear / Now it’s people in your class that they consider your peers.” Daylyt also references his Capital STEEZ tattoo, further connecting his response to the ongoing rap feud.
